FinAccrual

INSTALL & UPGRADE

Installing and upgrading the FinAccrual add-in

FinAccrual runs as an Excel add-in on the same Windows computer as QuickBooks Desktop. This guide covers a first installation, upgrading to a new version, and the one upgrade problem customers occasionally hit.

Before you start

First installation

  1. Close Excel.
  2. Run the installer and follow the prompts. No administrator rights are needed; it installs for your Windows user.
  3. Open Excel. The FinAccrual pane appears on the right.
  4. Sign in with your FinAccrual email.
  5. Open your company file in QuickBooks Desktop, then click Connect in the pane.
One company file belongs to one FinAccrual workspace. If Connect says the company file is already connected to another workspace, ask that workspace’s owner to invite you from the portal (Team → Invite) rather than creating a new workspace.

Upgrading to a new version

  1. Close all Excel windows.
  2. Run the new installer. It replaces the old version; you don’t need to uninstall first.
  3. Open Excel and sign in if asked.

If the pane says a new version is available, install the latest installer you received from us.

Connect says “This QuickBooks request could not be verified”

This QuickBooks request could not be verified as one FinAccrual’s server issued, so nothing was sent.

Nothing was sent to QuickBooks — your books are safe. This happens on a computer that had an earlier FinAccrual installation: an upgrade keeps the old settings file, which can point the add-in at a server that no longer matches the new version. A clean reinstall fixes it:

  1. Close all Excel windows.
  2. Press Windows key + R, paste %LOCALAPPDATA%\Programs\FinAccrual and press Enter.
  3. Delete everything in that folder (or at least the file finaccrual.config.json). It holds only the add-in and its settings — none of your journals or workbooks.
  4. Run the latest FinAccrual installer again. It writes fresh, correct settings.
  5. Open Excel, sign in again, and click Connect.

Uninstall says “Windows cannot find … unins000.exe”

The uninstaller was already removed with part of the old installation. Skip the uninstall: follow the clean-reinstall steps above. Running the installer again also repairs the entry in Settings → Apps.

Check which copy of the add-in Excel is loading

  1. In Excel: File → Options → Add-ins, set Manage to COM Add-ins, click Go.
  2. Click the FinAccrual row and read Location. It should be under AppData\Local\Programs\FinAccrual.
